I miss you Ruby Skye!

Jammin’ out to some Armin van Buuren and wishing I could shake my booty at Ruby Skye.

I want the beat pounding through my veins.
I want the lights to be dim, but colorful.
I want to spend $8 on a drink at the bar… well, maybe I can do without the over-priced drink…

Point is, I miss you Ruby Skye!

You should come to Oregon, Armin van Buuren… umm, strike that. I will just come down to San Fran.

Tough-Girl Pop

Tough-Girl Pop

It is a tough-girl pop music day.

You know what tough-girl pop is, of course. You don’t? Well, maybe that is because I just pulled that phrase out of nowhere. I consider tough-girl pop to be the type of pop music that some of the self-proclaimed non-girlie girls even find contagious.

Let me provide you with some classic examples:
Lilly Allen
Katy Perry
Kelly Clarkson (her old music is more so than her recent music)

These girls are some of the current faces bringing a harder edge to the genre. The music is extremely catchy (like most pop music), but the lyrics are refreshingly blunt. Enjoy a few of these tough-girl tunes via the links below.

“I am weapon of massive consumption. It’s not my fault, it’s how I am programmed to function.”
- Lilly Allen,
The Fear (from It’s Not Me, It’s You)

“You change your mind, like a girl changes clothes. You PMS, like a b!tch… I would know.”
- Katy Perry,
Hot n Cold (from One of the Boys)

“I hope the ring you gave to her, turns her finger green. I hope when your in bed with her, you think of me.”
- Kelly Clarkson,
Never Again (from Never Again)

And, since remixes are always a blast, here is one of my favorite remixes of Lilly Allen’s The Fear.

Gimmie Money, Honey. Chiquitita, Mamma Takes It All!

Wow, this post title sounds dirty when I say it out loud. Don’t worry folks, this post is not about some secret, corner night life. It is about ABBA and Mamma Mia!

For those of you who are not familiar with either the group ABBA or the musical/movie Mamma Mia, my fabulously long post title is a combination of some of the song titles. Bask in the creativity. Ha! No, seriously. The more I look at the title, the more silly it becomes.

Tangents aside, the brains who transformed the popular ABBA music into a musical are geniuses! The versions of the songs used for the stage are disgustingly catchy. Those who hear (or accidentally overhear) the tunes will soon be humming along, whether they are into the tunes or not. Take me, for example, I have not even seen/heard the musical recently. Yet, I found myself humming the tunes while I was at work today.

Out of nowhere! How did that happen? Now, all I want to do is listen to the music and rent the movie. I would see the stage show again, but I don’t think I can afford the plane ticket… or the show ticket, for that matter. Ah well, I’m perfectly happy just singing along with the soundtrack while I dance around my apartment.

Take a listen and belt out the music like you know you belong on Broadway!
Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie
Mamma Mia
Honey, Honey

If you have not seen either the stage version or the movie version of the musical… you should =D

Calling All Muppets

A day or so ago, my mind stumbled upon Fozzie Bear. If you are not familiar with Jim Henson’s Muppets, Fozzie Bear is the puppet that is notorious for his cheeseball jokes. For example, one of Fozzie’s joke went something like this:

What do you get when you cross the Atlantic with the Titanic?
Answer: Half way!

Wacca, wacca, wacca! Good stuff. When I was growing up, I was a huge fan of the Muppets. The Muppets star in several Muppet movies. My favorite Muppet movie depicts the chaos that occurs when the Muppets visit Walt Disney World. While Gonzo and Camilla tour the less frequented secrets of the Disney laundry system, Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem have a concert.

Before the Muppets reach Disney World, the gang go with Kermit the Frog to visit his relatives in the swamp. Actually, the purpose of the trip was to party at the swamp, but the rest of the Muppets are having none of that. Any who, the Florida frogs are jamming to some crazy tunes at the swamp. Enjoy!
