Mr. Potter Returns

“Mr. Potter, our new celebrity.”
- Snape [from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's (or Philosopher's)  Stone]

I have been so caught up with my own life that I have forgotten to dedicate a post to Mr. Harry Potter.

Now, I begin my count down to the release of movie number 6.

To prepare myself for the flick, naturally, I am re-reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I will laugh, I will cry… I will know exactly what parts of the movie are not quite accurate.

What can I say. This series has become a part of me. The world of HP has been a delight for me ever since I devoured the first book for my 2000 summer reading project [**funny thing is, I do not think my English teacher approved of my literature choice**]. I have read and re-read each book—I get swept away into the world J.K. Rowling created with every reading.

Yes, I am a fan of the movie adaptations… but I will always love the books more.

So here is to Mr. Potter!

“I would assume that you were going to offer me a refreshment,” Dumbledore said to Uncle Vernon, “but the evidence so far suggests that that would be optimistic to the point of foolishness.”

A third twitch of the wand, and a dusty bottle and five glasses appeared in midair. The bottle tipped and poured a generous measure of honey-colored liquid into each of the glasses, which then floated to each person in the room…

The Dursleys, after quick, scared looks at one another, tried to ignore their glasses completely, a difficult feat, as they were nudging them gently on the sides of their heads. Harry could not suppress a suspicion that Dumbledore was rather enjoying himself.
— Rowling, J.K. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, p. 48

A Few Well Earned Comforts

After a long weekend of information collection, reading, and organizing, I decided to relax. In the words of Merry and Pip from The Lord of the Rings, “[I am] sitting on a field of victory and enjoying a few well earned comforts”.

After digging up this quote from my memory, to apply it specifically to my current relaxation, I started to wander around You Tube. While in search for a video of the scene in which Merry and Pip say the aforementioned quote, I came across some other good videos.

Hilarious video remixes, like:

Jawsome video remixes, like:

Enjoy! Props to the remix artists =D

Annual Bridget Jones Re-Read

Believe it or not, there are still people who re-read books. While some books are read-and-ditch material and other books are kept for years, not all books are re-read with regularity. Yes, I am one of those people who re-reads books that I really enjoy.

I have a list of books that I return to typically once a year. This list includes Harry Potter books, Pride and Prejudice, and Bridget Jones’s Diary. Though all of these books have been made into flicks, no amount of big-budget-Hollywood-blockbuster glam can replace the pleasure of reading the original stories. Plus, as if it was not already apparent, my imagination turns words on pages into a crazy world without the use of special effects. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy to movies too… *psha*

Well, I am currently re-reading Bridget Jones’s Diary. For those of you who like the movie, read the book– bizarre Bridget is much more hilarious and loveable in the book.

Now, folks, to the purpose of this post: a quote. Juicy humor packed into a paragraph. The words of Bridget written by Helen Fielding. Oh, Bridge…

Completely exhausted by entire day of date-preparation. Being a woman is worse than being a farmer–there is so much harvesting and crop spraying to be done… the whole performance is so highly tuned you only need to neglect it for a few days for the whole thing to go to seed. Sometimes I wonder what I would be like it left to revert to nature–with a full beard and handlebar moustache on each shin…’

Ah, I love that farming is declared to be analogous to waxing, shaving etc. Good stuff… v.g. =D
