New Yorker blogger gives Wishbone a nod

I was an avid Wishbone watcher. I saw him don a beard in Rip Van Winkle and also challenge the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera.

So, you can imagine how excited I was to see this interview on The Book Bench.

What’s the story, Wishbone? Woof!

Box Fort

One week after the move and there are still unpacked boxes. Almost every corner in the living room is occupied by either a box of books or by a piece of furniture that needs to be put together.

This maze of boxes got me thinking of Friends, Season 5. After Ross says the wrong name during his wedding—OMG!—during the final episode of Season 4, his marriage to Emily crashes down around him. Ross is eventually kicked out of the apartment he was meant to share with Emily.

In fly Joey and Chandler!

Ross and his boxes settle into a temporary living arrangement with Joey and Chandler. While Chandler is preoccupied by the idea of sharing his space with Ross, again, Joey is grown up enough to recognize that Ross needs their support… and that the boxes are the perfect building blocks for a fort!

The One Where Ross Moves In – Part 1[hit 7.30 - 8.15]

Chandler: What are you doing?
Joey: Nothing.
Chandler: You built a fort, didn’t ya?
Joey: Kinda.
Chandler: Oh my God, the air purifier! Ross’s air purifier! All I heard through four years of college was mmmmhmmhmmmmmm…
Joey: Dude, you should’ve gone out once and a while.
Chandler: I hate this thing!
Joey: Come on, Chandler, Ross is our friend. He needs us right now, so why don’t you be a grown up and come and watch some TV in the fort!

Oh Joey, you are so craaaaazy! Ha! Hit the next link to see more of the fort fun =D

Cartoon Mayhem

It all started with Party Popple. I had a stuffed Party Popple when I was young [see below]. Party Popple is the large pink Popple with one purple ear. She was awesome! Not only was she soft, cuddly and brightly colored, but she could roll up into her own pouch! Amazing. Well, the search for info about the 80s Popples cartoon and toys quickly led to a general cartoon goldmine.

Check out this link and bask in the flood of memories: Old Cartoon Intros

I think that the cartoons that I used to watch are more fun than the garbage kids watch today. Sure some of the classics, like Care Bears, are back in vogue. Yet, I am hard pressed to find any new, current day cartoon that is nearly as awesome as the 90s show Animaniacs.

Ah, Yakko, Wakko, and Dot. I learned so much from you—I even like to assume that you influenced the development of my sense of humor. Hey, you even taught me the Nations of the World [my sister and I shared a cassette filled with all of the crazy songs used on Animaniacs].

The Animaniacs duo Pinky and the Brain was my favorite. Brain was always ready to take over the world and Pinky was there to make bizarre comments. Narf! This duo was so popular that they eventually had their own cartoon series.

Now that my post is drawing to a close, my praise for Animaniacs would not be complete without a turn of the Wheel of Morality: Early to rise and early to bed, makes a man healthy, but socially dead.

Murky and Lurky Barbeque Mess

We made barbeque chicken recently. It was delicious. Mmm, what a yummy condiment barbeque sauce is. The trouble is that barbeque sauce is hard to clean off.

Since my beau and I lack cleaning initiative, the pan used to bake the barbeque chicken in sat on top of the stove for several days post-meal. The rich, shiny barbeque sauce left in the pan started to look crunchy and muted. Yet, the pan continued to sit on top of the stone, screaming for a bubbly soak.

After days of passing by the dirty pan, I decided to fill the pan with soapy water this morning. When I came home from work today, the water in the pan was no longer clear and bubbly; the water was brown and murky.

Murky. Lurky. Murky and Lurky! The dingy pan-water got me thinking about the fictitious characters named Murky and Lurky. This glum duo causes trouble for Rainbow Brite and the Color Kids in the TV show Rainbow Brite.

Check out the following link to See and Read a tale about Murky and Lurky. I never had a See and Read Rainbow Brite story, but I did have a story book with an accompanying audio cassette. Killer!

Oddly enough, the color of the pan-water looks like Lurky (the brown monster). Ewww. Barbeque sauce is starting to sound less appealing with each Lurky, dingy comment.
